OVERVIEW

In 2017, CAN partnered with Multicultural Arts Victoria, Propel Youth Arts and the State Theatre Centre of WA to deliver the Common Ground pilot program in Perth.

A week-long intensive workshop series delivered by first generation Australian Sikh, spoken word artist, educator, and performer Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa and spoken word artist Abdulrahman Hammoud. The artistic duo enabled participants to build confidence and capacity for creative self-expression, leading to five young CaLD performers presenting their newly developed poems accompanied by electronic musicians, Akioka and Rohan Golestani.

These artists continued their journey through a Common Ground exchange with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne in partnership between Multicultural Arts Victoria and CAN.

“I believe Common Ground is a great, inclusive workshop for young creatives from diverse backgrounds to be challenged and find their personal voice. Many of my friends are searching for an opportunity to be a part of a community like this,”
